Another Fellowship-Trained Adult Reconstruction Surgeon Makes Boston Orthopaedic & Spine—And Our Patients—Even Stronger
“Helping people live better is why I became a doctor in the first place,” said Dr. Mascarenhas. “Science, medicine and research are just the tools physicians use to accomplish that.”
Originally from Moorestown, NJ, Dr. Mascarenhas became an emergency medical technician (EMT) while in still in high school and continued in the role on weekends and on breaks while an undergraduate student at Rutgers University.
“Being an EMT was part of serving people in their time of need and opened my eyes to what medicine was all about,” he said.
“I was very fortunate to train at Rutgers University and the University of Texas,” said Dr. Mascarenhas. “Those institutions provide high-quality care to patients. Given their prominent roles as state-designated, level-1 trauma centers, I learned how to take care of complex problems and was able to perform a high volume of surgical procedures.”
Dr. Mascarenhas joins Dr. Burke, Dr. Ross, and Dr. Schena on Boston Orthopaedic & Spine’s esteemed joint replacement team on September 3, 2024.
“I chose orthopedics because so much of a person’s happiness is tied to function, being able to do the things they want and need to do.
Orthopedic specialists meet patients with a problem and work with them to get them back to an active life, whether through surgical or non-surgical treatment. It’s so rewarding to be able to fix what gets in the way of people being able to enjoy their lives.”
Walk away from joint pain.
“As a joint replacement specialist, I see patients who are suffering with pain and often some level of disability,” he explained. “Joint pain may come from normal wear and tear, a previous traumatic injury, an immune system disorder, a blood flow problem, or from a genetic issue.
Regardless of the cause, my job is to figure it out and help the patient overcome that as much as possible.”
Dr. Mascarenhas has experience in clinical trials on infection prevention, clinical research on fracture care, and biomechanical research on revision hip replacements and robotic-assisted knee replacements.
“I’m very excited to join Boston Orthopaedic and Spine,” said Dr. Mascarenhas.
“It’s a growing and expanding practice with an outstanding reputation in the community. I want to be part of a vibrant and prolific orthopedic practice that is focused on providing excellent care in the community and contribute to an orthopedic practice that people seek out for themselves, their family members and their friends.”
Dr. Mascarenhas will begin seeing patients on September 3, 2024.
