Platelet-Rich Plasma

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is a concentration of platelets formed from a patient’s own blood.

Platelets are commonly associated with clot formation, but they also play a vital role in the body’s natural healing process. The signaling molecules inside of platelets help direct regenerative cells in our body to repair or form new tissue such as bone, cartilage, fat, muscle, heart, blood vessels, and nerves.

At Boston Orthopaedic & Spine, PRP is utilized in a game-changing orthobiologic procedure for musculoskeletal conditions.

We use a centrifuge that separates and concentrates these platelets from other components of your blood, forming platelet-rich plasma. Our process of harvesting and concentrating platelets is performed during your procedure and only takes 15 minutes.

Components of Blood:

Platelets Carry proteins and other molecules important for healing damaged tissue.
White Blood Cells Help support the growth or repair of new tissue, and helps fight infection.
Red Blood Cells Help bring oxygen to new tissue so it can live.
Plasma Contains electrolytes and proteins important for healing damaged tissue.

Every patient has a unique biology with inherent variability. Boston Orthopaedic & Spine uses state-of-the-art technology to ensure our patients receive the most advanced, customized treatments that are currently available.
